The original antenna is a piece of wire usually coiled up and is a specific length. The length of it is is determined by the frequency of the signal you want to receive, in the case of an AM/FM radio fitted to the Transit these two frequency bands are quite wide apart and the radio compensates for this by using internal tuning circuits matched to the length of the antenna.

Therefore by drastically altering the antenna length (adding another) these tuned circuits are out of tune and it is very unlikely that it will improve reception and may even make it worse.

Have I explained that clearly? It's not the easiest subject!

Cheers,

Rob

The best improvment would be length, as car radios use a loaded 1/4 wave 76cm, so a 1/2 wave is 152cm long. CB radio usues a 1/4 wave 273cm, couldnt drive along with a 35ft long full wave on your car, or can you...
So all you need is some copper wire and make one
