MK 6 Banded Steelies

Postby dan83590 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 2:31 pm

I'm seriously thinking about having this done to the 16 inch wheels fitted to my van. Not too wide, I want them to stay inside the arch.

I was wondering if anyone knows the max size I could have them made or what and where I should measure to find out for myself.

What about steering also, I don't want anything rubbing?

Any clues from you guys?

drop a plumb line down the side of the arch and measure the gap  make sure the vans on level ground tho :D

sounds a good idea post some pics up and let us know how far you can go :D

drop a plumb line down the side of the arch and measure the gap have them fill the arch i've seen mk6's with wheels sticking out of the arches so you shouldn't have any rubbing issues - just get them made as wide as legally possable

The maximum I can add to the wheel is 1.5 inches. That will bring the wheel level with the standard arch. The size of the wheel will increase from 5.5J to a 7J.

Now, I wanted to go with a lower profile tyre also but I am finding it hard to find the correct size combined with an acceptable load rating. I was thinking maybe a 215 or 225 tyre with a 55 - 65 profile.

What do you chaps think?

What's the std size?.... these may be better, if not cheaper!

Standard profile is 75mm.

One of the reasons I want to do this is to try and make the steering feel a bit less like a rudder!
