Pieces of steel for fixing my hole

Postby alexthecheese » Thu May 27, 2010 11:44 am

I have a hole behind the drivers seat on the floor where I can now see through to the floor. I dont think this is right, so I need to get another bit welded in.

Me granddad has a welder and is apparently pretty good with it, so I need to get hold of a piece of steel - it only has to be about 6 inches across.

Where do I get this from? Really dont have a clue.

An 8 x 4 sheet round here is about £25, shows what kind of mark-up B&Q have.

Search your local phone book for fabrication places, or small engineering works. Go and
ask for the foreman, and ask for a bit of off cut.

Failing that, and this is last resort, local car scrapyard with some tinsnips, and get some off another car

I get loads of steel from a local engineering company, normally just a quid or 2. I even had them order me 6 metres of angle iron and it was only a tenner.
