Would it be legal to fit empty fog light casings in the bumper of a mk6 and mount lower power L.E.Ds in them and wire them off of the headlights or relay and switch just an idea really as i think an A bar with spots doesnt look right but i want more lights at the front.

cheers for the replies. I thought there wouldnt be a problem all i want them to do is light up doesnt have to be mega bright but as bright as say angel eyes or halo rings or what ever you call them.

Don't think they'll be legal for road use, unless it's foggy. Because of the height and location of them they will be classed as fog lights even if they are only dull.

Madmark and I both have LED H3 bulbs in our Front Mk6 Foglamps

I'm sure this is legal but....Can't be bothered to look up the C+U regs..

i think you'll find all led bulbs that are retro fit for existing base patterns for car lights fall foul of the C&U regs, that was the case when i checked a year or so back.

Instead of poncing about with led candlelight just bung a pair of switched and wired to sidelight with relay halogen micro angel fog ones on and angle them well down, mount below headlamps or outside of headlamps they become auxillary driving/sidelights.

You can just make mine out they are under bumper though and on the outside of the under bumper fogs, cost 20 quid, i've run them for 15 years with and without main headlamps on.

I replaced my cab rooflights with high power (100W) halogen ones which came on permanently with the lights. MOT didn't even question them, infact as long as they are working its not an MOT issue, but regarding legality however just make sure they are slightly dipped away from oncoming traffic - ie they don't blind you when standing in the offside lane, as your normal lights are and that they are not blue or red and don't make a siren noise you should be legal.

In the end I removed the lights, as at night when walking around the front of the pickup with the lights on it would take me about half an hour for my blinded eyes to adjust to the darkness again.

Yes but it's the location of them, because of their location they will always be classed as fog lights, so driving with them on under non foggy conditions would be why they are not legal.

Mike...You are correct but....

If they are low-power i.e. 6 watt bulbs then they are OK

The LED H3 bulbs are below 6 Watts so are fine.

Nothing to do with the MOT.....Not testable items.

May be a C+U issue...I havn't had time to look yet!

i've seen lorrys around here with so many lights on the front you think you meet the xmas tv add coca cola lorry coming towards you and most of them are blue or white and real bright i had to spots on my car once just below the main lights passed it nct test with them and they came on when i turned on my parked lights now they live on the back of my van
