widening arches

Postby johny transit » Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:53 am

Reluctantly I'm looking into wider arches to accomodate decent looking wheels.
I would only want to add as little as necessary, not going for a 3" Carlos Fandango look.
Any kits available or bits off other vehicles? And is it just the rears that would need doing? (To accomodate say 16" wellers)...or I could just go for bog standard Tourneo wheels if it's too much hassle....

oh yeh and I still want to be able to open both side loading doors!

Take a look at some of the progress reports, a few people have used Connect arches. There are a few options available for wheels that will fit without modifications.

or could fit a mk3 axle, must be easier than flaring arches and sorting two side doors to open properly

Yeh that's a good idea - if I can find a low ratio one that doesn't whine. I like your van - any more pics and what size wheels and tyres you got there? I think that's the sort of look I'm after.

Don't think the Mk3 axle is a straight swap.

Shock mounts have to be moved to the otherside of the axle

I see - presumably the larger rears due to a MK3 type axle? What are those wheels - look like they might be Weller 8 spoke but can't quite make em out. Looks tastefull, definitely think I'll give wider arches a miss.

you need wider than normal wellers to justify swapping to a mk3 axle on a mk5 tho :!: :D

best to go for landrover redrills 16" and get different offset for the front to the back  would look awsome with a mk3 back axle and fully filled arches

are you going to billing fireworks doo johny transit :?:

Hi Luke, so can any engineering place do the redrills? Is it expensive? Can you recommend the offsets for front and rear wheels? Looking at 14" wheels, the pcd of the nuts is quite small and there might not be anywhere flat to re drill onto, is that why 16" is good? (Or they just look cool!). It's just a tad confusing...

not sure on the prices ive redrilled all my own but i think about £50 you'd have to pay :D

16" is juat a commons size ive done some at 15" aswell but i dont think you can get landrovers in 14"

are you coming to billing fireworks meet :?: i'll be there and my mate martin will with his van and his new wheels some 16" wellers we've done - best ones yet 5 holes only :!: and all at transit pcd 8)

No I can't make the weekend. Would have liked to have seen those wheels. Are the 16" wheels available in...6j is it? Or all so wide that they require extra arches? I only want to use sensible tyres, say 195-205 or something.
At this rate I'm just gonna grab a set of Tourneos.

I've got a lovely set of 15's that'll fit without mods.

Yes I've got the same wheels too!

Wouldn't part with mine though!

I've got a set of 15" Wellers off a Landrover....£55 or £100 re-drilled to Transit PCD...
