has anyone ever altered rear doors to fit 8x4 sheets in swb?

i am thinking of changing the rear doors on a swb mk5 so i can put
8x4 sheets straight in.
so i was wondering if anyone has ever done this or if there is anything
i need to know on the idea in general?

currently i have an ex-bt with bodywork issues but ive seen a silver mk5
that looks nice, 8 seeter so thinking, hmmmm.......

anyway, anyone any ideas?

Would be easier to modify the bulkhead to make them fit. They fit without the bulkhead.

yes i guess it could, but that wouldnt fit eith my aims.
as i wouldnt want to get rid of the bulk head in my ex-bt
and if i got the other van i would want to keep 5 seats and
put a bulkhead in.

i think maybe i should have said that in the first place oops.

Didn't say get rid of the bulkhead, you could modify it.

Not sure how they would fit if you had 5 seats in the back.

I think that is the only downside to a swb mk5..... not being able to fit an 8x4 in without modifying something. Oh.... and the rust

I got an 8x4 sheet in the back yesterday - i had to slide my seat forward a couple of clicks but it went in above the rear seats

I had 30 sheets to collect for free and I could not get them in. Got some going corner to corner but the rest had to go on the roof rack..... very top heavy

If I removed my bulkhead I could get maybe 15 in laying down iirc.

anyway, i think i am going to got this other van and the plan is to put a
box type affair in the offside rear door so i could carry half a dozen
sheets in the back without going corner to corner.

If this other van has seats in the back, does it have a bulkhead? If it doesn't have a bulkhead then the sheets should fit.

i wouldnt drive a van with tools an stuff in without a bulkhead.

the bus im looking at has 8 seats in rails, so i can put a double next to the
side door. i will then put a bulkhead in behind them and round behind the
drivers side. then with an extended bit in the rear door i can get sheets in.

so all in all i will have 5 seats and van space for my tools and work stuff.

They'll probably fit then if you are making a custom bulkhead.

i am the proud owner of an old van with a gazillion miles on her silver frame!
ex-working bus, so well maintained just lots of miles.

anyone want an ex-bt with bad rustworm to the body with t+t?

if your planning on keeping it n using it regularly for picking up loadsa 8x4 then y not put a frame on the side like window fitters use or if its only a one off then just slide them in from the back n ratchet strap the back doors shut

mine is swb but semi hi top..i have put some timbers across where that channel runs then a sheet of mdf on top,screwed into the rear timber to stop it moving.then a piece of 2x2 at the front to stop sheets sliding over my head under heavy braking.
