V6 Conversion Parts Checklist - Help Required

Hi folks,

Having enjoyed my Pinto-powered Mk4 (SWB hi-top part-camper conversion) for the last few months, the decision has been made that she is a 'keeper' - and that more power is needed!

I have started stock-piling the necessary bits for a V6 (cologne) conversion, so far I have the following:

* Full Engine, Loom & all Anciliaries (2.8 Efi (super-rare!) out of a pal's dad's old funeral limo - so v low mileage)
* Transit 2.9 SVO Flywheel
* Transit 2.9 SVO Radiator & all Water Pipes
* Transit 2.9 SVO Engine Mounts
* Transit 2.9 SVO Adaptor Plate & Starter Motor

I am planning to keep the existing MT75 gearbox, prop & diff that's already in the van.

I know I need to get hold of the following:

* New Clutch Kit - does this need to be a 2.9 Transit kit presumably?
* Efi Petrol Tank & Pump

I have read that the Granada exhaust manifolds and downpipes cause an issue (they don't clear the bulkhead and/or Transit gearbox?) - am I correct in understanding that Capri 2.8i Janspeed tubular manifolds will cure this?

I am hoping to do as little 'fabricating' as possible. On this basis, what else will I need?

not sure on the tubular manifolds - they may do - its the adapter plate and large transit bellhousing they catch - you could trial fit them on the floor 1st if they didnt fit tubular ones wouldnt take much modifying

and apart from that your list looks pritty complete the only thing i can think of is the V6 slam panel is different so the large fan doesnt catch but thats not a problem to get round

dunno how much room you got in there for them cast exhaust manifolds, you will find it easier with a pair of tubular janspeed ones for a capri

Presumably though the Granada manifolds & downpipes deffo won't fit? Do people normally have to knock their own up or have some specially made?

no i think you can fit a smaller fan not really sure plenty of v6's have gone in no bother - i only noticed as i had both side by side (i had a mk3 svo v6 ambliance)

yes manifolds mainly and they are different on a 2.8 to 2.9 - but 2.8 is easier to get hold of tubular ones

the 2.8 has siamese ports (2 outlets each side) the 2.9 has 3 each side. tubular manifolds are easy to get for the 2.8 and Ive only ever seen custom made tubular ones for the 2.9 ££££
I sure the down pipes on the SVO ambi are bent really wide to clear the box with the O/S one having to clear the oil filter too, but Im sure you will be able to adapt a pair of capri ones

I used a Granada MKII 2.8i onto a C3 auto box, I brought Capri tubular manifolds,which clear the box and filter with no issues but I am going to fit a A4LD from a Transit eventually and there shouldn't be any clearance problems with that either.

I am going for a similar engine, mated to the MT75 transit 'box with the correct adaptor plate.

So, with Capri tubular manifolds should get around it?

Did you then mate them to your old transit exhaust system - or get a custom exhaust made up?

any exhaust will fit round an autobox they are much smaller its the transit manual MT75 what causes the problem
