Respray in metallic (or flake)

Postby frank308d » Sat Jun 18, 2011 10:51 pm

Hi all,
To any vehicle painters or serious custom boys/girls? Looking to spend a load of time and probably money sorting the body of my 190. Just getting under way changing arches and straightening lumps and bumps. Want to put it back in white but is it poss to add a flake/pearl or some other glittery additive to the clear coats to give the finish something a bit different?
I'll more than likely be getting all paints etc in the UK as that sort of thing is frighteningly expensive over here.....
Cheers
Frank

flake is very easy to add just mix the amount you want in the laquer mix well and away you go
make sure you mix all the laquer as 1 you dont want to be trying to make and the same to match if you run out
they sell it on ebay and would be fine
i have used some off the bay before but found the flake to be a bit big and sit up in the clear coat
but once it was wet flatted down and mopped up all was ok

im not overly keen on the stuff and think your better off sticking to just white
i wouldnt go adding flake and stuff but each to there own
just remember if you bump it or have to paint bits after you will be stuck to get it to look right

Actually, I'm thinking of doing flake just in the body lines. Round the panels and along the 'swaging' along the body flanks. nothing heavy, just something to accentuate the lines without using solid colour. Maybe a pale gold flake? Way down the line as there is still a heap of panelwork to be done......
