Front brake upgrade mk4 swb

Postby Luke » Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:51 pm

as many of you know im fittning mk4 front to my mk1, im planning on reconditioning the whole lot and was thinking while im at it i could upgrade the brakes :D

Looking through the speedways catalogue i can see the mk4 6 stud have a 270mm disk over my 5 studs 254mm disk :D all the dimettions are the same thickness etc. infact the only dimetion different is the o/d :!:

http://www.speedways.co.uk/front-c8917.html

Has anyone tried this :?: bolting a 6 stud disk to a 5 stud hub - is the mounting PCD the same :?:

also looking at the calipers they look very similar in design :!: are they the same :?: what are the differences :?:

anyone any info to add :?:

basically i want to do exactly what you've done but to the mk4 :D

I guess by the lack of responce no-ones tried it :(

Does anyone know if mk4 6 stud twin wheel disks and calipers are the same as mk4 6 stud single wheel disks and calipers :?:

also is the stub axle the same on twin 6, single 6, and single 5 stud :?:

and if anyone (local) has got any knackered ones for me to try it with it would save me wasting my money if they dont fit :D but if it works i'd buy new ones anyway :D

I can see exactly what you want to do Luke, but I've never seen it done so cant be of any help there. Hasnt Tony got any six stud stuff laying around at his place?

well if your gonna use the smaller pads what was the point of fitting the larger discs?? you will still have the same braking area :? just fit the proper 190 pads
