Well, it WAS okay...

This is how it looks, from some angles:

Had it parked up on the side of the road in Lymington last night, on a well lit urban street, with my hazard lights on. I'm offloading stuff into a first floor flat. Heard a big 'crunch' and ran outside to see a Rover 400 driven right up my vans chuff

Driver was about 85, could hardly see his hand in front of his face. Obviously didn't have his seatbelt on, his head cracked his windscreen. His Rover was absolutely totalled, and his wife taken to hospital by ambulance with neck pains.

My van is mullered at the back. Chassis bent in, door bollocksed, side panel knackered, exhaust wrecked... what a mess. Just glad I wasn't at the back of the van when he hit it. Got the glorious prospect of dealing with Saga insurance company now...

This is how it looks now:

I asked the cop who attended - how can someone miss seeing a great big van like that, in a well lit street? His reply was one word - AGE.

Bloody coffin dodgers, keep them off the roads for the safety of themselves and everyone else.

Dunno yet. Got to wait till early in the week to see how the insurance companies want to play it.

I'll be pushing for repairs, if it's borderline. Will certainly need new doors, new side panel, bumper, rear exhaust section / bracket... big question will be how extensively the floorpan is damaged

Damn shame if it is written off, as it was pretty bloody good condition all round, and drives perfectly. :( I've done about 3,000 miles in her in the last week or so, and she's never missed a beat, best van I've ever had by some way.

if your lucky they might pay up and let you keep the van 8) 8) mine ins co did 8) then source some 2nd hand parts and u will be back on the road again 8) 8) but these ins co's are slimy pieces of work   good luck and keep us posted
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Thats a shed load of bad luck you have there mate :(

There is no doubt in my mind from those pics that it will be a total loss (in the insurers eyes), to have that repaired with a new side panel, new chassis rail, new door, new exhaust, new bumper+end caps, new light unit and the floor repaired you would be looking at £1500+ , it isnt a £3000 van so it will be written off im afraid, if you can get them to pay out for the van and keep it then you could probably get away with about £900 if you source the parts yourself.

yeah mate i feel for you hassle ahead :( and not at all your fault :x - definatly a write off but like siad before if you can buy it off the insurance company usually 10% of the payout you could bodge it up and run it to death - it will give you ages to search for a mint replacement :D

Bad luck mate. DO NOT GIVE UP. DO NOT LET THE INSURANCE COMPANY TAKE IT AWAY 'FOR STORAGE'. Nothing is impossible to fix. Let them pay out less the salvage and talk to madvanman.

I reckon it is dead too. Even if the van is still expensive to repair via madvanman or whoever, breaking it for parts should bring in more than they sell it back to you for, so assuming you have the storage space at least that could be an option for you.

OK.

So, assuming it DOES get written off, and assuming there is a possibility for me to 'buy it back' as salvage...

I have neither the time, space nor mechanical aptitude to warrant doing that. But evidently lots of you on here do. :)

So, if I'm given the option to buy back the salvage, who wants it? And how much is it worth? Happy to consider an outright sale, or a split of breaking sales value.

:P
