Rust spots/stone chips

Just wondering what people think is best for treating these? Rub down then prime then use proper car paint then laquer, or rub down then hammerite?

I've gotta do my arches soon before they get too bad. I plan to remove all paint, use some kind of rust treatment then hammerite, but I'm not fussed if it looks a bit rough, just that it lasts. You really have gotta treat the rust with something or it will be back within a couple of months.

Don't use hammerite if you plan to have a respray or keep the van! It doen't take ordinary paint.

Too true Fred, I have never known a paint that will go over hammerite - other than hammerite!

its cos its xylene based not cellulose

Use Kurust, loctite rust treatment or similar on the rust but make sure and get all the loose rust of before you apply it .

I replaced my arches , well one arch for now as it always raining up here in scotland, But the other arch has been removed to leave just The inner arch open to the elements I treated this with 2 coats of rust treatment and a coat of red oxide a fortnight ago and to date there is not a rust bubble to be seen.
