Finally started!!

Many thanks for the help, especially you Guy, for talking me through some stuff on MSN

I was giving it one last try before resigning for the night and contemplating checking the timing tomorrow in daylight... Using jump leads from car again, to make sure plenty of juice. Turned it over a few times, still nothing - then I noticed a wee puff of smoke from the engine, and it started to cough like it was trying to catch. A few more turns, a load of throttle, and away she went.

Much oddness. Perhaps opening the injectors up cleared some air out? Perhaps there was some shite in the fuel that finally burned off? Who knows.

Anyway, will see how she starts tomorrow morning!

i dont mean to sound negative here but i have a feeling your problem is not fixed


is the bosch pump on it the later type or earlier? ie does it have a cable ont he side of it? (not throttle cable)


should have the later type anyway


fist start by checking all the fuel line inlet nuts to fuel filter and back of the pump, you could have an air leak somewere int he fuel system

Planning to take it to someone a little more competent than me early this week, to get a proper check over it.

Like apples said it doesnt sound fixed

Get the iming checked and a compression test

If your desperate get a tin of easy start but dont give it too much or it will make all sorts of horrible noises

I don't want to get your hopes up, but if it started and ran OK before shurly it's not likely the timong threw itself out in the night? Or the rings/head gasket (to give you poor compression). Have the wire to the stop solenoid on the injection pump checked (it's the only wire on the pump).

Well, it burst into life at the first turn of the key, this morning. Absolutely no problems at all with it today. Very weird!

In the meantime, anyone know anything about fixing electric windows? Drivers side glass is loose, and not moving with the motor - motor 'clicks' when the switch is pressed. Is it as simple as lining the glass back up on some runners?

I am sure I saw a LINK or how to on here somewhere with a person who had had the motor slip (click) and the thread was all the how to take the unit apart (with pictures) and stop this from happening again, sorry I can't be anymore help but certainly the information is on here in one form or another.

I stripped the door down yesterday (it was easy) and the regulator is damaged. The bush on the lower pivot has collapsed, and the arm itself is slighlty bent. This prevents the teeth catching with those on the motor, hence the clicking. Ordered a new regulator, should be arriving today.
