Mk8 Payloads. Seem much lower than earlier marks?

Has anyone noticed that the weight the mk8 Transit can carry is drastically less than the earlier vans?

A Mk2 Tansit 190 had roughly a 1900kg payload limit, just looked at the brochure for a new mk8 and a L2, H2 so medium wheelbase medium roof, kinda equivalent in size to a mk2 190 LWB, only has a 1442kg payload limit. That's the best of all the vans they do up to 3.5T.

Surely this will catch people out?

True, but not everyone thinks like that do they.

Also that's a massive difference in a van that's bigger, you'd expect the payload to at least be similar, not nearly a quarter less!
Just shocked me the difference.

Lots more stuff nowadays, abs, power steering, ew, dpf's etc,etc

All the extra wieght adds up!

I towed a 7.5 ton cargo recovery which had a transit on its back, with a LandRover Defender 110 200tdi

The new jumbo van with two people in the cab and a full tank of fuel in it weighs in at 2850kg's . 650kg payload ? Won't take vosa long to catch on.
