Mk7 tailgate opinions

Postby ned » Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:57 am

It will look different with a tailgate was that an option from new, not seen any on a medium roof.
I hate my tailgate but each to there own, I get what your saying about loading them no forklift will go under the door. N

Rare option I think, mk6 and mk7.

Mines just a car so I'm happy :-) would have been cool if it had runners to allow the gate to go up and over like a garage door tho

I like my tailgate, but at a massive 5'4", I can run about under it without any risk of head injury

It must just be me that doesn't like the tailgate, I'm 6 foot and can fit nicely under mine on a low roof so you shouldn't have a problem just have to remember to close from the side in rain or you get soaked (more of a not to self :D ).

Surely there is a way to self make an up and over door, would be different and pretty darn cool if it can be done. N

I'm used to that as I have a garage door which I use every other day lol bit of a jump backwards when I close it :-)

Would be cool to have the up and over option but I can't see it working on medium roof van without some fancy levers and pulleys.

Couldn't even have a quick release as the tailgate is too bloody heavy, I can lift mine up but it's too awkward and if it lands on my toes I think they'll break like carrots

I can see away of having the tailgate to raise up just not go over (not yet anyway)

You'll need the hinges from a coach side locker and some heavy duty struts, would be abit dodgy in the wind though. N

Why not a system like some windows. Handle one way lift up.
Handle other way door swings open

I actually thought about that today  but i think it might need a fair bit of reinforcement to take the door :(
