MK6 rear light issue

Just had towbar fitted and wired up...in the process we have found the black plug that pushes onto bulb holder ,the terminals in the plug have corroded.

Is there a way to replace terminals (ebay kit maybe) or is simply chopping plug off and reattaching a better condition plug the best option.

Please don't all start shouting at once...ive had a search.

Chop off and replace, or some have directly soldered on to the bulb holder.

Thanks...thinking solder direct to bulb holder might be way forward.
