Transit Tippers, Ginger Pikies and Campsites

Postby ginsambo » Thu Apr 01, 2021 2:25 pm

OK, whilst still deliberating about getting shot of the Mk4 Camper, I have discovered that the awning for the Mk4 fits perfectly on the side of the Mk7 One Stop Crew Cab Tipper and it's also where me and the wife usually sleep on an inflatable mattress anyway....so I'm wondering if I could use the tipper for camping instead? Or do campsites have a zero tolerance policy towards Ginger Pikies and Transit Tippers? Could I claim indigenous rights or somethings? Ginger discrimination?

I redid the interior in the Tipper but still have to fit a few folding and reclinable seats from a Sharan/Galaxy and maybe a microwave. The extra tent room on the back of the tipper body would be for a mate and the folded seats inside of the grand daughter and or wife if we have an argument and with room to carry 3 plus kayaks, surfboards and maybe a few bikes chucked on the tipper body it makes perfect sense.

Problem is will any campsite let a Transit Tipper on site? I mean we'd look the part, as said, three kayaks, surfboards, a Cadac and water on the back and stuff. Now, I'm guessing we'd have more success in private, smaller campsites.

With the extra width I'm also quite looking forward to ramming other surfers and tourists off the single track lanes at Putsborough beach and Boddinick. Although in actual fact the Mk7 One Stop tippers are a few inches narower than a MK8 or mk5 bodies.

Does anyone has any experience on this sort of stuff? Does it sound like a bad idea?

I would think very doubtful on most sites they don’t like sign written vans and in some cases no vans at all my brother wanted to take he’s fishing gear to a site down south but they refused to take a booking for a van.

Thing is I see loads of T5's and T6's with their stupid Honolulu flowers on the dash, a few Sprinters and a fair few Transit Customs. It's bloody discrimination.

Yes true but what you have described as wanting to take on a campsite is pushing it a bit to say the least a pickup truck is not a camper.

If I saw a tipper pull up on the campsite I’d make sure everything was locked or bolted down! If I see a T5 with sticky flowers, I don’t worry.

OK, I might worry for my belongings if a tipper turned up, but if a T5 or T6 turned up I'd worry for my bottom. Oh well maybe I could spray it gun metal and put some flowers around the dash and write 'Cocktorcher' written on the side, then everyone else will fear for their bottom and belongings.

Either way, I’d rather not be on a campsite with people who think it’s ok to sh*t on the floor.
