will the tranny ever go to the states ?

been doing some hunting on the interweb for a m8t in the states as he is after something different in a van/minibus to the run of the mill V8 gas guzzlers they get for vans
found these to give him some thing to think about and thought you might enjoy them

as you can see in almost every way the sprinter in the second link is better , will have to look deeper for panel vans but how can ford not sell the tranny in that market !!

even the shrub says they have to get better gas mileage with american cars and vans now

Unlikely that it will ever get sold over there mainly due to the lack of an automatic gearbox. Deisel power is a wierd thing in the states as it isn't that widely available (and very much disliked) plus you have so many regions that have extremes of temperature which would make deisel a little difficult to use. Mileage is another thing as in some cases gas stations are a long way apart, so unless the bigger engined version with that large tank are being considered for an autobox the yanks will never get a Transit.

2010 if they are really lucky I reckon more likely 2020. But to be fair we are beginning to get US models over here in greater numbers with the steering wheel on the correct side

diesel is coming more to the fore in the states , they start to get the same brew we get next year instead of heating oil type and all the makers are bringing out lines for it
GM is even starting to sell astra's there now with more vauxhall/opel range to follow , and they have there koeran/japanese marks to draw on
as ford will with mazda

first time i went there was in 1982 and my great aunt had an olds cutlass 5.7 L turbo diesel ,136 bhp !!! 560 + ftlb of torque !!!!! and great economy it did 12 mpg ( smaller US gallon so around 16 here )

as soon as there govt realise that oil isnt unlimited and they put the tax on it like we have, which they will have to do, then they will have to start thinking before running a van that does 6 mpg , then the transit will be a big seller,

Well it's not really a suprise the US don't have the transit, they have the econoline, which even in it's latest form is a lovely van and much more attractive than the current transit IMO.
