Van Insurance BEWARE OF VAN LINE DIRECT

Postby Keef » Tue Nov 02, 2021 4:00 pm

Just a bit of a warning of the methods employed by Van Line Direct who are on a number of comparison sites.

My last policy was with Aviva and cost around £250 but as with all companies they doubled it on renewal so last night I went on Confused and got quotes of which £219 for own goods commercial cover with Van Line Direct was the cheapest so I bought it there and then and went to bed.
The next morning I got a phone call from Van Line Direct to 'verify' my policy and basically answered all the same questions as the quote all over again.
He then said he wasn't sure that the underwriters would accept me and he'd check with them and call me back.
He called back and claimed the underwriters would only accept the use as for 'hire and reward' (which it definitely isn't) and the policy would now cost over £800
While I was waiting for him to call back, I had checked the reviews for this company and it seems that this is what they do to everyone, give you a cheap price, wait until you pay then create a reason to massively increase the price and if you cancel within 14 days they charge you a £25 cancellation fee even though you filled in the quote in correctly.

You have been warned.

I know what you mean but
1] I run a £500 van which I would never claim for, it would only ever be a third party claim so the quality of the ins company didn't seem to matter much.
2] I'd kind of expect the comparison sites to vet their providers a little better, after all it impacts on their reputation too.

Anyway, lesson learnt

Strange that Aviva doubled their renewal price :?

Insurance companies in general must have had a massive reduction in claims in the 18 months previous, due to people working from home, and also self isolating at home, both my car and van insurer put in renewal prices at less than last year, so for once, I renewed both with the same companies.

I don't understand insurance companies like Aviva.
So renewal was just over £400 but I tried a new quote through them today and it came back at £265
I'd have just renewed if they'd quoted that to start with. I now do every other year with them.

Admiral gave us a refund last year, totally unprompted because they assumed we’d used the car less because of lockdown. The renewal was £10 more than last year, they kept our business.

It looks like in January 22 insurance company’s will not be allowed to give new customers a cheaper price then existing customers so unless insurance companies compete to keep your business we will all end up paying more .

That now makes sense why insurance’s have gone down in some cases. Both my car and van went down so I kept with both insurance companies and never looked for another quote.
