Verdict on MK8 - Good Model to Buy

Postby PCSBristol » Mon Sep 05, 2022 10:02 am

Hello all,

I'm currently at the end of a lease on a MK8, had the van from New - lease is finishing in November. I've loved having this, no issues whatsoever in these 3 years.

I'm looking to buy my next one and I can't see any good reason why I woukd t go for the exact same thing - MK8, roughly 2 to 4 years old.

May I ask the forum - what is the verdict on these as they get older? I'm mindful I've only seen the best years of my current van (brand new, warrantied etc), so I won't know any recurring or well known pitfalls of them as they get older.

Are they considered a decent vehicle as they get older? Am I right in looking at this model as a decent pint for the next 8-19 years or so. I cover about 20k per year City miles. I'm aware of keeping the DPF cleaned etc as I have to do this on mines now.

PS I'll only be looking at the standard diesel Euro 6 engine, not hybrid or electric etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Why not see if the lease company will sell you it for a fair price you know at the moment it’s good my mk8 was at 7000 miles when I got it x lease minibus at 22 months old and compared to my last vans that had 100000 plus miles on them when I got it I would never get a low mileage van again my mk6 135 tdci on the form has a bad rep but for me it was the best van I’ve ever turned into a camper.

Sadly it's too small for what I need - it's an L2H2 and I want a L3H3 otherwise I'd Defo buy it off them.

Its all down to proper maintenance, my mate has a 65 plate MK8, that's done well over 250k miles, and it drives really well, but its been serviced on the button and anything that its needed its had done as soon as possible

His previous MK7 is still rattling about as well and its over 300k miles
