Transit Tech Hull

Hi all,
I wanted to share my recent experience with a reconditioned engine installation and get any advice from others who may have dealt with something similar.

In July, I had a reconditioned engine supplied and fitted to my Transit by a company in Hull (Transit Tech). They provided a six-month unlimited mileage warranty.

Unfortunately, the engine failed catastrophically within 19 miles of collecting the van. It happened suddenly while driving on a dangerous stretch of the M62, resulting in a complete loss of oil pressure and leaving me stuck on the hard shoulder in fast traffic. The AA recovered the vehicle as it was totally undriveable.

After the breakdown, communication with the garage became extremely difficult. Despite the failure happening almost immediately after the work, they refused to arrange recovery unless I paid first, and they wouldn’t confirm anything clearly in writing regarding what the warranty actually covered.

Because the vehicle couldn’t be driven back and no agreement had been reached, I arranged for an independent inspection. The findings included:

collapsed bottom-end bearings not seated correctly

internal damage consistent with an assembly issue

the subframe (which they removed and refitted during installation) found to be heavily corroded and unsafe

nothing to suggest any third-party interference or unrelated part caused the failure

When I presented these findings, the explanations I received changed several times and included a number of hypothetical causes that didn’t match the actual inspection results.

Eventually the garage said they wouldn’t respond further and that I should take the matter to court. At this point I’ve submitted complaints to the Motor Ombudsman and Trading Standards and am preparing for a small claim.

I’m sharing this partly for advice, but also so other Transit owners know what happened in my situation. This is just my experience, and the timeline is documented with photographs, recovery reports, emails, and the independent findings.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with early engine failures after a rebuild?
Or dealt with a warranty situation like this?

Any advice from the community would be appreciated.
