mk5 hicube 1996 2.5d speedo clocks just a question

how come for some reason when you drive the speedo clicks about every 20secs
only just started it and does ya head in as i throught it was a mouse at 1st

Worn/broken strands of cable twisting in the outer cover
Worm drive I believe without looking

had this myself and it drove me mad too! i then noticed that i had reset the trip counter but it hadnt reset fully and was stuck and that was clicking. i reset it again and it was fine, so as andyg suggested try that first!

I had a Mondeo that use to click sometimes. Use to sit in the yard and click. You could drive it, then it'd start clicking, after a while it'd stop. Never made sense of that motor.
