Right just been offered an 'a' reg transit from ebay an ignition lock, which if I have the plug on end bit and housing too, should be ok?
He says the cowling is different but has a window rubber too.

So do I take him up on the lock as long as its with everything or remove the whole thing from ours and change to the early mk1 ignition in the dashboard? Which is the easiest?

Thats the bit!! Are you sure I can't have it?

So, If I change the casing, barrel and therefore the lead end to a mk2 one will it work?
Or take the whole thing off and swap to a mk1 switch on the dashboard?

1972, could have been a really early face lift though, the steering wheel (or rather center cap) was the same as the one I got sent off ebay off a 1968 van, so could have been one of the first and still using up bits of the phase1s. I didn't go a long way under the dash, but couldn't see a plug like the one Mark showed.

How about this one, I know the wire colours are different but has the same plug as Marks lead.

I am not sure, would need to see it from the other side, I have a feeling it would be no. Have you asked wardy if he has the bit on the camper he's breaking?

Yes, he only has the cloumn left. The guy from ebay anly has a '93 ignition or a '68 dashboard one. Hubby wants it to stay on the column. So need one complete for column or just the tail end. Will see if I can get pic of the escort one from the other side.

How about the mk2 ignition complete, casing, barrel and leads, would that do it?

Thanks for all this guys it is really appreciated.

Hi all, well success may be on the way. Managed to get a complete mk2 ignition set up from ebay yesterday and hopefully a spare lead from another guy.So looks like we may get away for Easter after all. Provided the post doesn't let us down!!

glad to hear you got it sorted.as every one says mk1 transits are easy targets for crooks.my mk1 has been broken into twice now.i dont bother locking the old girl any more and leave nothing of value in the cab.id rather have them just open up a door than bugger up my locks or glass.i do have a kill switch fitted that makes it impossible to start as it cuts power from the distributor.its only a drag when i forget its on and curse the van for not starting
I'D RATHER PUSH MY TRANSIT THAN DRIVE A BEDFORD
