A64 smash leads to delays

TRAFFIC tailed back five miles on the A64 this morning after a van came off the eastbound carriageway into the central reservation.

Emergency services were called at 7.45am after the Ford Transit van came off the road near the eastern A659 Tadcaster junction.

Police closed the eastbound outside lane for more than an hour, causing five-mile tailbacks snaking back to the A1/M.

Ambulance and fire crews attended but no one was trapped or injured in the smash.

Because the driver clearly couldn't have been concentrating. We can only speculate as to the reasons why - using a mobile phone or falling asleep at the wheel spring to mind!

Which is exactly what happened to me a few years ago. Coincidently it was a large white van that nearly killed me - they didn't stop of course.

What with that and the contraflow on the single carriageway stretch just west of the A1 roundabout near Aberford, it must have been a fun rush hour for anyone commuting from Leeds to York this morning.

The accident happened at 7.45 in the morning - said bints aren't usually up that early. If you're right she was probably hung over, which would explain the accident...

its amazing how they jump to blame the van driver and call him a maniac etc etc, i drive 40k a year and regularly have to take action to avoid idiots on the road, only the other week a muppet tried to cut round me on an island, fortunately i am a very alert driver and was aware he was liable to try it, so i avoided him, but i got out and requested his details to report him for reckless driving to which he replied "go forth" and drove off, when he realised i was still behind him further down the road (i was going that way to work) he motioned to pull over and apologised. I very bluntly informed him that using offensive language at me at 8am when he was clearly in the wrong is NOT WISE (i'm 6'4"), showed him the damage done to my van by another muppet trying the same stunt a week before (someone else was driving, i was at a funeral), and proceeded to give him a severe dressing down in front of a line of busy bus stops outside a shopping centre.
Oh the joy... but i think i would have gotten more joy front punching his lights out fordriving like a tw@
