Minibus (?) insurance yet again

Postby xpabu » Wed May 28, 2008 7:10 pm

Hi all,

I know other threads have covered this lots, but I think some of them may be out of date.

I'm getting a '92 Mk3 2.9 V6 minibus, which has 7 seats. The DVLA docs have a blank next to the number of seats.

I've tried everyone mentioned in the previous threads (spent 2 days on the phone...). Problems i've had are generally:

* non-standard engine, engine >2.5l
* minibus (!) -most of the regular ones who used to do minibus insurance don't anymore so it's restricted to the specialists

Most annoying thing is that i can get a quote through Motor & Home Direct but they say the minimum seats i can have is 6.

I'd really like to be able to vary the number of seats up to 7 but no-one is allowing it. Even if i take more seats out (its number of seats is not registered afterall), people are still saying it's a minibus as it has windows and the DVLA doc does say 'bus'.

My broker currently hasn't thrown up anything i haven't found. The commercial companies have either not got back to me or not phoned!!

Anyone insured a modified 'bus recently!!?

cheers
Paul

Will be a Mk4 then!

Try Norwich Union, they will add the details to the insurance database.

What did they say? I'd try them again. Could be what you are saying about messing with the seats.

Tried them a number of times, 2 flat 'no's and 1 can't even get my address right nor can they update it because of a 'new system'... hmmm

If you haven't already try Gladiator insurance

and if that fails ring Footman James, they can tailor a policy to your needs

Gladiator weren't interested but footman james were very, very good. I've gone with them--they didn't care about the seats, engine, windows or exhaust changes. Highly recommend them after all the pain i've been through. Number is 0845 458 6782

Cheers to those who did reply.

Think you got problems...

Try a 2001 Tourneo 9 seater for class 1 business use. I've had to have really deep pockets :(

Minibus direct never even replied when I filled out their online form. If they are that crap in responding to new business imagine how bad they would be in the event of a claim

Just had my renewal through. 2 yrs ncd, class 1 business use £1100. A local broker is trying to beat the quote but no luck so far

 Is that a 2.5 DI? If so most certainly standard as offered by Ford.
