Postby HiCube4 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:17 pm

Can anyone out there make mine do even 35 to the gallon, High Cube 1997, runs lovely but aint quick and likes a drink, presently 28.8888888 mpg loaded with 5 off road bikes to Spain & back, with the EGR blanked off and the Valve wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open. Would pay serious money to ANYONE who can improve the consumption of my best friend, can travel and dont mind waiting.

There was a prog on itv tonite just after the news@10 with Quinton (the car expert  )

He had a new programme fitted to his diesel Rangerover and it increased his mileage considerably.

Apparently the dongle is attached to his electronics and it increases the BHP thus you don't need to open the engine up thus saving fuel :?
once he had the dongle fitted the rover returned 30.2MPG. He said that was the first time he had seen the car give that reading. :P

Yea I saw that as well, but we are dealing with stone age technology here with my motor, 2.5 banana non turbo, so I suspect I dont have anything to "plug" into to work that kind of magic. I was a tad suprised when I took a journey down to valecia last month fully loaded with 5 off road bikes and got about 28 to the gallon, EGR blocked off and the butterfly wedged open, stopped it smoking due to overfuelling on full throttle, and I reduced the throttle opening by turning the cable adjuster so she wasnt harry flatters all the time with my foot on the floor, seemed to make a difference and she pulled better up the Mountains around Bilbao en route to Santander. I was in the company of a lady driver with a later LWB Duratorqed Tranny and she only used 2/3rds of a tank compared to a full tank on mine, mind you she only had 3 bikes in hers.

As Poppajoe mentions, acetone may help, but depends on your driving style... acetone will give you more torque at lower revs, allowing earlier gearchanges, and the ability to pull higher gears at low speeds, so giving more mpg... But if you thrash it around, then acetone may not be of any advantage mpg-wise.
Will pull better up the mountains with acetone though... my banana engined Convoy took the Horseshoe Pass in my neck of the woods in 3rd and 4th with acetone added, rather than the usual 2nd and 3rd without.
