mk5 2000 w reg diesel LEZ compliant?

Postby Gavin » Mon Aug 04, 2008 2:23 pm

found an ex-transco diesel 100 mk5 at a reasonable price, checked on the tfl site and it seems to be 2010 compliant, but many other mk5s ive checked (some registered later), arent, i found one other that was, but the seller was aware it was and was asking silly money.

whats the chances that it is/ has been registered as compliant by transco, or is it a cock up by tfl?

the seller of this one dosent seem awaere - how else can i check if its compliant?

oooh naughty. i rang TFL..... its been registered as an N1, "car derived van" so its not subject to the LEZ  :D only had one owner and thats transco, so its likely a mistake at first registration by the dvla :!:

its cheap too, £1400 odd quid, and no vat. 113k on the clock and its tidy, no rust visible. do i buy it and plead ignorance if i ever get caught, or better to steer clear :?:

Buy it, looks like it's the one and only loophole. It shouldn't matter to the DVLA, cos you are not doing them out of any money. I take it it's £185 a year road tax still?

If you try hard enough, I am sure we can come up with the car it was derived from. We can build one.....

just watch out that they don't pick up on it when 2010 comes and start sending you demands for money

It goes on what is on the DVLA computer, if it says now it's compliant I don't see how it would change unless a new owner changes it, why would you do that?

Correct! In the end it will be down to ANPR, not what it looks like or what the vehicle make/model is on the V5.

How many seats has it got?

W566 BFR is a Mk5 15 seat minibus which is LEZ compliant because it has 9 seats... seems to be a loophole there too

the girl on the TFL helpline was very insistent that it was exempt, even offered to put it in writing
but...

ive done a little digging, "car derived vans" is an english phrase and isnt exactly a statment of whats legal, the euro definition is what is legal, and thats LCV or "light commercial vehicle"

Light commercial vehicles (LCV) or category N1 is the formal term in the European Union for goods vehicles with a Gross vehicle mass (GVM) of up to 3.5 tonnes.

Vehicles which qualify in this catergory are pickup trucks and vans both commercially based or passenger car derived.

but tfl says its only exempt if its under 1.205 tonnes its exempt. anyone know what the unlaiden weight of a mk5 100 is? surely its over 1.205 tonnes??

anyway, im gonna have a look at it, see whats on the logbook

You have a point about the weight. As far as that goes no diesel transit will be exempt by 2010.
