110v supply?

Postby Ron » Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:30 pm

Could anybody tell me the best way to set up my Transit so there is 110v sockets in the back?

I've seen these working on site before, and I'm not sure what the setup is to look for. I don't think it's an inverter, as I'm fairly sure they are driven by a seperate motor as they always have the van on when in use and can suppy quite a load (including inductive loads). If somebody could give me push in the right direction, how readily available they are, and how easy to add/convert to my van, that'd be great.

Cheers.

I've had these in a few of my vans when I worked for A-Plant, it's called an Automate and it runs from a seperate 55volt alternator. Very very expensive!

A Plasterer chap i worked with used an inverter from maplins for the 12v-240v. then his portable transformer in which plugged the van setup. just a 1 into 2 extension 110v leads to external sockets. he was never happy but insisted the problem was the inverter and not the 12v supply.

Eventually went for a petrol generator. he paid £90 i think for a new generator from screwfix.

Havn't seen him since giving up bikes as we used to ride together.

Ahh, damn! Always the way. Was hoping it would be something I would come across in a scrapyard or be able to buy second hand...

Looks like I'll keep searching then (like that roof lining I want!), and hopefully perseverance will pay off.

If anybody DOES know of where one of these might be available from, or of another make even that might do the same and be more readily available (and cheaper), please post or drop me a PM...

Chars.

Thanks.

Looks like the generator idea is the way to go then. There looks to be loads on Ebay too, so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Cheers.

Thanks for that Dan.

I think if I was going to go the genny route however, something with a higher power rating would be better for me.

I'll let you know what I get, but it may be a short while as I have to convince the Wife!!!
