Transit memories

Postby steve edwards » Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:56 pm

As an ex member of the ambulance service i used to drive a ford transit patient transport vehicle , reg no L787 APK it was a lazer conversion and seated 8 punters , she had a tail lift and had a 2.5 non turbo diesel engine coupled up to an auto box .

She was the first of the fleet to go into service at Farnborough station on the pts line and was the last to leave , thanks mainly to myself and my crewmates reluctance to defect her and so prolong the inevitable removal and disposal from the service .

In the end we named her Betsy or old bets , as she was an old lady who had trouble in mobilising and who creaked and groaned most of the time .

When she was removed from the fleet in the Surrey ambulance service she was sold to Thames ambulance service who then sold her to euromed ems and was used then as a control vehicle i believe.

Just thought someone might like to hear a little story
