How's this for a warranty

Postby john leeman » Wed Aug 13, 2008 1:22 pm

On 1/8/08I received a letter from my local garage HQ in Oxfordshire, offering Me a 3 year warranty on my 05 plate DRW Jumbo 115 van, I bought from them @ GRIMSBY's Hartwell ford Main dealer on 1/2/08. Now with 30,774 miles on. From its 3rd birthday 5/8/08 to extend the main dealer warranty till 4/8/2011 unlimited milage, things NOT covered altenator, battery, brake linings, glass, seatbelts, bulbs etc.BUT DO COVER breakdown recovery and M.O.T.s untill 4/8/2012. All for £865 inc VAT, or £65 63 per month X 12 payments. Not bad, less that a cost of a turbo unit.
35 years of driving, repairing, sleeping in transit's lovin every minute.

Hi John. :D

That does'nt sound too bad at all to be honest and like you said that's just about the same price for a turbo (i know i've had to replace one recently on one of my Tranist's but then it had done over 300,000 miles) but like BigNeil said look out for the small print.I took out Ford's own 5yr unlimited milage warrenty (at about £850.00) on my latest Transit and one (of many) clauses says that the service MUST be carried out within 1,000 miles. Now that might seem like an easy thing to do but when you have the van booked in for a service at the end of the week and you get called out to do a delivery to Inverness my vans milage is suddenly a whooping 920 miles more with still another 3days to go,Thankfully my local Ford dealers was able to bring the service forward and done it on one of there night shifts.
Don't got me wrong,i dought if they are that down to the last mile and your out on your ass as far as the warrenty is concerned but at the same time i wou'dnt like to find out. :( .

Take care and safe miles! :P

Thanks for your kind words, local dealers are spot on here. Working for NHS delivering doctor's personal belongings all over the country at campuses connected to the hospital grounds, so its got to be right. Started with a SHR SWB 80 on a P reg, then 51 reg high top 300 LWB, Now JUMBO DRW, more boxes of bloody books, Plus 2 xlwb LUTONS, Plus a new comer V reg SWB 100, ex Ford motor Co demo, every extra, and I mean every extra in silver @ 63319 miles, had new back doors under warranty. Not bad J.L.
