Ure mad, say the belt is rubbing and snaps at 1100miles - you'll wish you checked it then!

Or it is the adjuster "whinning" cos the belts too tight, don't worry - it'll still run if that calapses, yea right!

Ok the belt is not 2 tight and i visually check the belt once a week just behind the crankshaft pulley theres a point u can see the cambelt and it looks good we've now done 2000 miles the noise is still the same no worse and i think it must b the pump it's a bosch pump. if it goes bang we put another engine in problem solved cheers

She's still running and whirring although performance is getting more slugish i'm sure it's the pump 5000 miles done now.
