Dartford crossing.. save money put seats in the back

so that would mean me going over in my spec with no car on the back i pay £1 and with a car i pay the higher rate..

i think its intended use rather than actual use at the time.....

but i did once get charged the goods fee cos i had my motorbike in the back on one way over and not on the way back, where i got charged the lower fee...but then my van had windows and carpets and curtians

from how it looked on the way over, it was clearly being used for carrying goods ( my bike) but on the way back it looked like a day van...

It's not the government as the bridge is privately owned and operated.

The Toll is charged for the Road that leads to the Tunnel and the bit that leads to the bridge Not the Tunnel or the Bridge which are owned by the Goverment. They soon will be taken over by the Highways Agency so i lead to believe.

The bridge was built by the company that owns and operates it, the toll is because they built the bridge on the understanding that this is how they would recoup their money.

They must have recouped their money by now, i mean millions of vehicles pass over that bridge and tunnel every day.

Price has gone up to 1.50 now.

Always wondered that. what do they charge recovery trucks?
slightly of topic but when i had my truck and i bought the tax.
i had to fill in a form that stated it was a recovery vehicle.
nobody looked at it . the woman in the post office
said she had to take my word it was a recovery truck
and my tax was about £100 .
i was thinking. transit van is for bike recovery now. so ramps in the back.
or if need be hydraulic ramp on the back.
classed as a lift/crane then so can bypass the lez
and mot.
so 24hr stickers up it.

only be mot exempt if over 3500kgs if stopped by vosa they can and do take the vehicles off you.they can just pg9 it if they dont take the vehicle....recovery wasnt cc charge but i think thats changed now.....mine is lez complient its got a petrol engine on the v5c..

Does anyone know the law about the hydraulic lifts.
im sure it went something like.
if the vehicle has a lift on it it's classed as a mobile crane.
like a fire engine and a spec. therefore cheap tax??
regardless of the weight.
that is right what you said about the 3500kg
making mot exempt. i remember now my truck was that weight.
im more interested in getting the tax down

Yeah apparently they said the tolls were only a temporary measure untill the bridge had paid for it self then they would be gone

I would suggest you get hold of a copy of the Consultation papers which were circulated to all Goods Vehicle operators licence Holders in the area of the Crossing which was about 6 Years ago by the department of transport and related bodie's.


That clearly states what the "Toll" is actually charged for and its not the bridge or the tunnel
