Crazy prices, some people out of touch

Postby 3 Way Tranny Fun » Tue Dec 02, 2008 12:22 am

I'm a van down right now and need 2 for newspaper deliveries, really don't feel like an engine change right now;so had a bright idea there is van for sale down the road N reg 2 months m.o.t,been parked in long grass since the summer, cracked screen and one really rusty wing, gotta be cheap I thought,he wants £600 and won't budge :o .Later that day came across an F reg swb 1 month m.o.t chassis rails rusted through both sides above the axle and loads of other welding needed ,bloody £400 they wanted and kept going on about it being worth that as scrap  .I know people can ask whatever they want its a free world but I bet bet they will both run out of mot and be sitting there in the new year, maybe Ive been lucky in the past but I wouldn't pay more than £250 for the N reg and a reluctant £150 for the F reg shed.I never pay more than £200 for end of life transits.Last year bought 2 high top 190 mk5s for £400 and one was actually a great van just high mileage (475000) and sold that for £500 with mot,P reg lwb £200 which was again to good to break and still driving it and got it through 2 mots with no trouble and various swbs £80-£100

You should off offer him twice what the scrap man wanted and shook on it, then took it to the nearest scrap yard for a price lol it would of been worth it to see his face lol.

Ihave found there is no such thing as a cheap van anymore and seems to be a bit of a shortage, probaly something to do with the computorised test ( cant get away driving with no test now) and this last summer probably didn't help, at the height of scrap prices i was getting on average £315 a van over the scales, more if i filled em up and some of them was ok.

There I was moaning, picked up a N reg ex BT 120 mot 'till June tax 'till march solid underneath, running lovely, scabby wheel arches but not disintegrating, boarded out, plenty of interior lights £360 :D :D :D :D Solves my problems and certainly not a temporary van.Thank god I can put my mechanical energies into my MK2 ,not engine change or resurecting my old H reg which amazingly enough dos'nt need any welding. Can't eat for a week but least got 2 vans again for my newspaper deliveries :D

I`ve just taken my first step into van ownership and i also noticed that the prices were all over the place. Never having been a van owner i had a good look around the used market, i had several Transits in my last Job as a service engineer took them all from new to well over 100000 with no problems in about 2 years.

Anyway to cut a long story short i got a connect 53 plate 2004 for £2800 57K genuine on the clock FSH etc from a reputable dealer Dewsbury Van Centre (highly recommended by the way), but the price variation for the same spec van (75ps SWB ply and side door) was hundreds of pounds, a bloke wanted 3450 for same spec van with spaceship miles in tatty condition, and it seems that this trend is not just with fords as i looked at several Vaux Combos and the prices on them varied wildy as well.

The car market is very stable albeit on a downward trend with the prices but any given model seems to be similar across the board in price
GREAT BRITAIN LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.
