have ijust bought the oldest mk1 swb pickup its a 1966 build month august.Its a one owner all original needing very slight restoration as its been in dry storage for the past 12 years.Maybe someone could let me know if they know of something older.

I didnt realize peters van was a 65 --thought it was a 67 how about pickups though any older than this one i did see another 66 a few years back swb painted green dont know were that is now.Iwill try and put some pictures of it as it now.Then some of when i have done the work

last year ford was looking for the oldest working transit i had one july 66 and they came to do an article as no one else come forward ive now sold it to another forum member who uses it every day ialso know of a d reg 65 pick up rotting in a field the man won t sell it this was the first transit sold in lancaster to his dad and theres a 65 van in bits in a shed at broughton also not for sale

yep there she is a genuine thing not seen another since 1 owner 47 k and all the old mot s and tax discs with it and it was a display model built july 1966 and sold to the first owner jan 1967 it still has its build plate in place ford verified for the press articles

Ford's search for the oldest Transit in everyday use in the vehicle's 40th anniversary year has led the company to a builder with a flat bed Transit of almost the same age. General building contractor Neil Cottam, of Preston, Lancashire, runs a 1966 25 cwt twin wheel Transit, which only has one previous owner.

Neil said: "It was the most original Transit I'd seen, it still has its Perkins 4108 engine. It may not be a museum exhibit but it's fully driveable. It's been on the road for 39 years now and all of that with just 50 horsepower."

Carefully preserved MOT certificates verify that Neil's Transit has covered just 46,000 miles in its lifetime. It takes pride of place on his drive next to his daily workhorse, a thirty years old Transit, registered in 1971.

Gary Whittam, commercial vehicles director, Ford of Britain, said: "It's been fascinating finding out about people like Neil who nurture their Ford Transits. We are very proud that Transit has helped to shape today's Britain, whether that's on a building site or delivering meals on wheels. It's great to hear that the people whose lives are touched by Transit are as proud as we are."
