Dredging up an old thread here but....
Just took my van down to be MOT'd and guess what?
'I'm sorry we can't do that here, you'll have to go to a VOSA testing station bloody miles away'.
Bah!
How much did that new plate cost you 100PS?

£50 :D worth it in my opinion as it saves alot of hassle :D
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Hmmm, £50 eh? Well I guess everyone has to make a buck!
Still it's quite fun driving an HGV. Thing is I think it's going to take ages to get an appointment at the VOSA testing station and I really need to use the van next weekend.
The GVW isn't written on either the V5 or the previous MOT. I guess no-one questions the police.

No doesn't list the GVW anywhere on any paperwork I've got, only on the VIN plate. (3850kgs)
When I first got the van I was stopped by the Police in mid-Wales, just for a routine check, and they said it was still on the computer as a standard Transit 190 panel van. They told me to have it changed as I had extra seats in it. Nice of Thames Valley not to have bothered! :x
When I changed the taxation class from Police to PLG I asked them to change it 9 seats and they said it didn't matter, anything up to 9 seats is PLG and doesn't need any extra mention. Who knows.
I just got off the phone to VOSA who told me I couldn't get a test until sometime at the beggining of July! Bah!

im just about to register it as breakdown truck on logbook

but.... did you know the true laws?

to cover exempt v112g ( i presume thats the one you ment as v112 is agricultral etc ?) it HAS to be over 3500

i have this in writing from dvla

what most peeps do anyway is register em breakdown on v5 fill in a v112g when tax to say its exempt and hope the post office counter clerk doesnt check (it seems they rarely do) but however its technicly illegal

but im gonna try doing the above come my mot and tax due date anyway lol

oh and i asked a chap the other day and he said yes thats right then said his is 3995kg lol so hes ok anyway hence i thought about upping the weight on logbook but dont think just sending changed off will work?

heres what vosa told me

Thank you for your email.

There is an exemption from the Plating and Testing Regs for breakdown vehicles which are purely lift and tow only, however this exemption only applies to vehicles that are over 3500kgs GVW as your vehicle is 3500kgs GVW it is not exempt and therefore subject to MOT Test .

Regards

David
