Law unto themselves (some of em ) if you want to override a limiter ask the Irish, One guy I used to work with used to say in the days before limiters that if you were going up to Stranraer and you new if the Irish ferry had come in you were best off getting off the road cos they used to come down the road racing each othe two abreast and god help anyone in there way

That'd be a scary thing to come around the corner to. Especially since, like the limited ones, they'd probably still only have a relative speed of 1.67mph.

I was driving up the A3(M) the other day doing about 80 and had a Royal Navy bomb disposal 18 tonner sat on my tail, once i'd pulled other and let him past he really put his foot down!

There's a fairly well known Irish firm who used to run meat down the M6 to Smithfield market. It was a regular thing a few years back for them all to gather at Tebay services and put a tenner in the pot - and the first one to Smithfield cashed in

They still tend to run to a different set of rules to the rest of us - you can bet that if you see an artic steaming up behind you in the middle lane then chances are it'll have irish plates on. Actually had to chase one in my 7.5 tonner once - he'd carved up a woman in an Escort big style - pulled in that quick his trailer wheels wiped her out and put her up the embankment - he never even slowed down I slowed a bit to see if she was in one piece and then went after him - took about four miles to ctach him up enough to get his plate. Nightmare.

when i was hauling spuds for a merchant in the midlands we had an ERF that went off the clock, put it in top at 65 put your foot down and she just went, P reg with a 420bhp engine and no limiter, easy do 90, now volvo have a 660bhp unit available, bet that will do a ton fully freighted at 44 tonne

read a report once in one of the truck mags that in america at night the cops just let the rigs do the speed they like and an englishman was moaning his new rig would only do 107 mph,

Lordy, I do seem to recall one of those police chase vid programmes though, where a stolen American tractor unit was barrelling along a multi-lane road heading for some tollbooths. The police cleared the booths of all traffic so he could just belt through without killing anyone who got in the way, they reckon it blitzed through at over 100mph! The "rigs" over there seem to be a kinda law unto themselves as well, from what I've seen on TV where they'll blast their horn at you to pull over rather than they slow down, and that's on an A-road...

I remember going pretty quickly myself from Redditch, starting at about 3.20am back up North and covering 200miles in 3 hours (but I wasn't being ridiculous, just that the lack of traffic allowed to me to hold a near constant 80 as soon as I'd cleared the roadworks outside Redditch), some of the stuff I saw then was pretty surprising, everyone else taking advantage of the lack of traffic. A LWB Sprinter (yeah I know) blitzed by doing 100 easily, a BMW 540 and a Jaguar XJR, big exec cars, they must have been doing near 140, within about half an hour of each other. Loads of diesel mundane cars doing well over 100. A big flatbed entered in front of me, still doing 80, and 'cos it had accelerated up a sliproad, I caught it a bit, but it was soon going AWAY from me, I thought at the time that there was something up with that!
It was all perfectly safe as well, even the BMW and Jag, 'cos there was like no one else around...
