I dont know much about Subs and stuff, but Im have a little problem with the head unit, plus I want to fit a sub in the back.
At the moment I have 6 speakers fitted in the van with a awia head unit. Problem is, the head unit flashes red and blue all the time and seems to be stuck in some kind of demo mode scrolling through the screen, I have tried to push variuos combinations of buttons but its still scrolling through, so I can't see what radio station or cd track im on. can anyone help this one?
Secondly, I want to fit a sub into one of my storage boxes, next to the light switches/cigar lighter on the right of photo.

I have been told I have fitted: pair of 80w 2 way 4" in the footwells, pair of 120w 2 way 6" in the doors and a pair of 3 way 6x9" in the rear doors, they sound OK and I have been told that I need a sub with a built in cross-over and pre-amp, but this means nothing to me. I have looked through eBay, but I still dont know what Im looking for...advice appreciated

Have you not got a manual for the head unit?

If not get the model number and google it

Has your head unit got a pre-out?
That's two phono leads hanging out the back.
You could go for an active sub ( built in amp) or an amplifer and seperate sub in a box.
In my old hi-cube i had,
4 speakers in the front of the standard head unit.
4 speakers in the back, running on a 800watt amp.
And 1 active sub box, 1400 watt.
Sounded feckin' awesome.
It all depends how far you want to go and how big of a budget you have.
All running off a Nikkai DVD head unit that had 4 pre outs on the back.

About the demo mode thingy, I have a kenwood head unit that scrolls through demo mode too, bit of a pain but every now and again it goes back to the cd display, and I can see it if I touch any switch. Kinda like a screen saver. I have no idea what to do about it though, I just wanted to let you know you are not alone

Right, i have just google'd it and found a link on a forum called difflock where a guy (called Alan of all things) asked the same thing... that directed me to a site called "FixYa.com" very poor image, but it has told me what I needed to know and now I have just one colour and the display is showing al the levels and track etc.

Chatmat: didnt want to spend too much... a friend of mine said why dont I buy a base tube (a what?) strip down and fit it in... my auxillay battery is behind those switches, so power could come from there. I pulled the head unit out and on the back there is 2 red phono sockets marked front and rear, not sure what they are for

This used to happen to my Kenwood, and I only fixed it yesterday.

With the Kenwood the unit has to be in standby mode, then in menu mode there is a feature which turns the demo mode off n on, moving the am/fm paddle switch. Eventually I got it all to work.

hey alan, If it was me i would obtain a 4 channel amp ( 800 w should be okay ) and power your 6" doors and 6x9's with and have the head unit run your footwell jobbies. You can pick up a decent crossover for around £20 and fit a sub ( 10" ) in a box ( don not use a bass tube their crap!!) and fit the crossover in line to provide the sub with low res only to give you that good bassy punch while your others should be able to cope with the higher pitches. Sounds really tec but it's pretty easy. I have a in dash dvd with a 7" screen just above my head ( rear facing), i have the 2 door speakers for the front and 2 sets of 6x9 powered by a 600w amp and at the rear i have a 1200w sub powered by a 1000w amp to give the bass. Kids love it. The sound comes out through all speakers and just like being in the cinema at 70 mph!! I got the head unit off ebay if anyone is interested look up- techiegadgets - in the user id forum and he has some very fancy stuff. I also bought my remote start alarm off him too!!. Git to fit but got there after 3 days!!. Hope this helps mate!!

Bass tubes arnt that good at all, more suited to smaller cars with out the space, but as you have a transit go for gold and get a sub, 12" at least maybe a 15" if its the rite price. Is there only 2 phono sockets? 1 should be white, 1 should be red, these will run your amp. It all sounds alot but it is quite simple to do, unless you are going in for sound offs etc etc dont bother with cross overs and stuff just run your speakers of the headunit and the sub off the amp, let the sub take the bass and the speakers do the rest.

JBL is the way IMO, ive been using the stuff for the past 10 years and have never had a problem, A1 motor stores also seem to have something on offer and are usually well priced or theres always the bay

Got to admit the price and spec of the JBl stuff is unbeatable and would reccomend 24 / 7. Had the same stuff in one of my cars a few years back and it is quality set up. May even expand my set up to fit this is in!

Thanks for all the advice guys, this sounds like the easiest route to me, so its a pair of phono leads to an amp, then cut a big hole in side box, amp to 12" sub that sounds easy too... What about boxing in the area behind and sound deadning? Should I reinforce the woodwork around the box as its only 1/4" ply and 1 1/2" batterns
