the moral of the story is!!

since my van was first poorly my gaffa lent me one of the company transits.

this morning i had to meet a plumber at a property in Wakefield,so i did,i was there 1st so sat in the van and had a coffee

the plumber came and all he was on about was where we was going to leave the keys for him tomorrow,so we both went round the back of the property for a look where to hide emi nipped into the house to put the heating on,in total we must have been 2minutes literally.set of to get another coffe and my tools etc outa the van to find out it was gone!


i couldnt believe it,anyway cutting a rather long story down it turns out the van has a tracker on it the van was by now in batley

by now another work mate was with me so we jumped in his van and shot to the address that the racker company gave us,the boss was already their and couldnt find the van
then out of knowhere the police drove up in the van by now there was no stickers or owt left on the van and it had been half cleaned,the address that it was at was one of them cosovan car wash places

the police have now got the van for fingerprints.the only thing that went missing was my mobile,and my hilti laser level

the moral of the story is



NEVER LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN YOUR VANS.. IT DOES ONLY TAKE 2 MINS TO LOSE IT...PAUL

You were lucky, A builder I know lost 15ks worth of van and kit after a similar thing and the insurance wouldnt pay a penny.

I lock mine even in the filling station.

the van was on a drive on a cul de sac when it was taken

I'm not thick you know but as it has happened to me today it will deffiantly never happen again i have learnt a BIG lesson today,its a good job my boss is a reasonable bloke who values good workers!!

Sorry to rub it in but i have remote start alarm on mine and it came in handy over the winter when 2 little t##ts tried to jump in mine thinking it was open ( due to it running) and found the doors were locked with no keys in!! . There bemused shock give me time to sneak around the van and wrap a ally bat round the back of their legs to stop them running off while me missus phoned the police. Was told by the police that they were released without charge due to no crime actually taking place and that I was lucky they were'nt pressing charges for their sore legs!!!

Yep I am paranoid about it.
I had a car stolen years ago and will never forget the empty feeling when you can't find it. (no I didn't leave the keys in it)
I also had my side window smashed (but nothing was stolen) when I parked up in town.
So YES I DO ALWAYS take my keys out and lock it, even on the drive.

have to admit im a bit paranoid about my van and kit, if i lose it i lose my business.
i ALLWAYS remove the keys, and when filling up, when i go in to pay i allways lock it up.

my old boss left his keys in his discovery a while back while on site, he came out to find his tools and mobile gone, the car with the doors open and the keys missing, in broad daylight in a residential street.

a few years ago in the middle of the night (im an insomniac) i looked out the window to see a young lad standing next to the lampost outside my house, nothing wrong with that. about 5 seconds later another popped up next to my car with a screwdriver, i got dressed, went quietly downstaris and into the garage, then went out the back door and crept around the side of the house, i slowly walked over to about 3 feet of where they were standing and said quite carmly "hello",
they both jumped out of there skin and turned around to see me standing there with a bloody great big fibreglass Axe!! (i truly would not have used it, well not the sharp bit)

they could have outrun linford christy!!
they have never been back.
