just think if the law arrested everyone right now for this offence, the entire road network in the uk would be empty! almost everyone has at some point sold cars at the roadside and worked on them. how do recovery firms stand i wonder???? i know ive repaired cars on the roadside when im on recovery work! saves a needless recovery say to scotland!!!! 3 cheers for johnie prescott... I WAS OVER YOUR WAY LAST NIGHT, IN A '94 CHISEL FRONT. WHAT A BARGAIN. BOUGHT IT OFF EBAY LAST WEEK FOR 100 QUID..... LWB HI TOP SINGLE REAR WHEEL. T AND T FOR 3 MONTHS, NON RUNNER. FEW DENTS, BIT RUST. PUMP TIMING WAS OUT, FIRED UP FIRST TIME. KNACKERED FUEL GAUGE. ON TRYING TO FILL WITH DIESEL, FOUND IT HAD A FULL TANK. DROVE IT TO SUNBURY FROM BARNET LAST NIGHT, QUICKEST DI IVE DRIVEN AND THE SMOOTHEST... ONLY 96000 MLS.

aint government wording great, i had to read that 5 times to understand it, no wonder it gets interpreted differently by different people.

So my interpretation is:
on the road side, if you are repairing or modifing a motor as part of your job or for reward, and the repair is not due to breakdown or accident within 72 hours of accident/breakdown or longer by arrangement with the local authourity, or if your working on your own motor and sombody complains you are breaking the law????

ie. as an autoelectician if go out to a customer and change a bulb within 72 hours of the bulb blowing im ok, but if its 73 hours after the bulb has blown, and i dont have permission from the police, im commiting an offence. (breakdown as in component failure so it no longer complies with the construction and use act)
