That's a good point, ovlov. Are caravan not trailers? In a few years time will there be less of em on the roads (hooray!) cos the drivers that passed in 1998 can't tow them?

I haven't, but don't need one. Am I right in thinking caravans are covered by this then? Or are they exempt for some twisted reason like a huge 3.5 ton camper is a class 4 MOT?

Yaaaaaay! There might be a few less on the roads soon then, if you need a seperate test to tow one. Who here hasn't been stuck behind some weekend gypsy (no offense iisacs) on an A road and wish they had stayed at home?

Maybe in Holland, but in the UK the gross train weight is usually 4500kgs for a 190. Isn't it?

In holland my transit may only have a weight of 3300kg total. but i recon it can carry much more

Anyone that passed there test after January 1997 can only tow a trailer up to GTW of 750kgs, so basically if you have passed your test after that date and don't have HGV class1 then you can only tow a very small trailer!

Alot of people get away with towing but if you get stopped or have an accident then you are stuffed!

cheers for info. i didnt have a clue!! im not insured to tow a trailer because my insurance was steep enough as it was because of a DR10 years ago.didnt want it to increase any more!!

any ideas what sort of increase it would make to say yes i occasionally use a trailer???

i hope this is true about the caravan/trailer issue then maybe the plank across the road will get the 2 sh*t heaps sitting in the car park at the back of the house away then i can park my truck out there

My insurance is no more for towing. But I suppose it all depends on your insurance company.

What's the GTW on a Mk 3 190? My plate seems to suggest 3500kg (the idents have worn off, but both large numbers say 3500)

It's immaterial at the moment anyway as I'm on a post '97 license, but I'd like to know I can tow larger stuff if I do take the test.

The Gross Train Weight is usually higher as far as I'm aware.

yeah steve your gtw is 5300 and your gvw looks like 3850 is the pic off your van

and dark legend 3500 is your gvw not gtw, gtw should be around 5500 on a 190 as far as im aware
