it was a D-series engine, the van wasnt fast but my mate over loaded it with 3 cars cut up and stuffed in the back, he said it went the same speed as when it was empty and it didnt matter how steep the hills were it didnt slow downFredTransit wrote:madvanman said there was a Cargo engine fittedn into a Mk2 already, so it's been done!

MRspivvy wrote:funnily enough I had the same thought, putting a truck engine into a transit. something like a cummins 5.9 turbo out of a roadrunner/daf 45, this is the one some american pick up trucks use and usually around 140-170 bhp, but buckets of torque. its quite a compact unit so with some bulkhead adjustment could even go under the bonnet.
of course, a 14 litre cummins -or detroit diesel 2 stroke if you could get one-just for the sound-would be even better- but its a seriously heavy lump and major chassis work would be needed I reckon. It'd be easier to get a tractor unit chassis and graft a transit body on. hmm, interesting...

MRspivvy wrote:Just had a thought- what about one of those GMC V8 diesel engines? they come in 6.2 and 6.5, NA or turbo. as standard they produce 200 bhp and are absolute torque monsters. american dayvans, pickups and hummers use them. a transit would really haul with one of those in and still get 30 mpg
