I didn't know that! My brother in law in Derby has a Metrocab with a Di, so though they all have (had) them.

2.9 V6 transit

Postby MRspivvy » Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:13 pm

I ran one of these for quite a while. it was an ex ambulance with a huge glassfibre ambulance body on, so quite heavy. plenty of power meant that going uphill at 70mph you could floor it and it would take off! mine was the later 2.9 efi cologne engine, on a run 25mpg was possible if you were careful. I always found it too low geared, revving a bit hard for my liking at motorway speeds but like I said, it didnt slow down on hills at all.
I cant help thinking that this engine in a standard panel van body would be a good tool, with none of the extra ambulance body weight on it and appropriate gearing it 'd be quick and reasonably economical. never as frugal as a diesel though, obviously. only reason mine had to go was it was just too big to use as an everyday vehicle, too long and wide to fit normal parking spaces.

Nissan diesel

Postby tranorak » Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:05 pm

A few months ago I got offered a Nissan pick-up with that 2.7 diesel engine and had the tape measure out and getting quite excited, then asked why was such a nice rust free pick-up being scrapped - because of the Horrific price of whatever bit the engine needed to fix it. Engine was good but needed something or other and it was about £400 so end of that idea. Jap stuff is expensive for parts

Love the noise, hate the size of the petrol bill!! Wish the St Johns hadn't kept the LPG kit. Yes, I know what I said ealrlier, but if it were there I would use it!
