i think the law states that factors making plates must see a v5 document for the car AND include a sticker contiaining the name and address of the maker. point of sale

it doesnt however say that the drivers plates must contain info.
so you can get what you want if you can find somewhere willing to do it.
once again the gov make life harder for the honest and do noting to solve the problem of dodgy people with fake plates. as we all know they will still get them

ebay for one

I have spent a fortune in the past on cars that proved to be money pits but never once regretted it as they were mine ad became an extension of my character. The most disappointing time I can remember was the first almost new/reliable car I bought. Christ that was boring and couldn't wait to sell it again and by something with more character.

Some of my favourites were: Hillman Imps - You had to wind the windows down on motorways to stop them being blown sideways and they always broke down after a couple of miles as the fuel would evaporate in the fuel line which ran along the top of the cylinder head: Triumph Stags - Complete money pits, most unreliable and crap to drive fast around bends but full of character:

My favorite car was probably my first, a MK11 Escort Van. Because the van was shite when I got it anything went. I gave it a stunning metallic blue paint finish with the texture of sandpaper. Did I care wtf. I dumped the engine in favour of a 2 litre Capri engine, fitted wolf race wheels with fat tyres and then had to keep a couple of tools boxes strapped in the back to stop the rear end from stepping out under acceleration. Should have paid more attention to the brakes though and eventually wrote it off when I ran it up the back of another car in the rain.

Other favourites include various Land Rovers (mainly MkIIs) which are like kit cars and great fun to work on, and also the MKII Granadas which were always good for the Sweeney feel (Seventies cops program in case you don't know).

Getting back to blowing money on motors, none of them cost me anywhere as much as the initial loss in value of the new vehicles I have driven out of showrooms. Best example was a brand new Mitsubishi L200 Animal cab I bought for £20,000 and sold a year later for £12,000. That's £8,000 which will of course buy a very nice secondhand transit.

Cheers

Jez.

On the numberplate side

For MOT standards your supposed to have the Brittish standard mark in the bottom left and the post code of the place that made the plate in the middle

You are alowed a border and a euro flag any other text is not allowed

you have to show driving licence and log book to get them made aswell

bus as said all the tester is interested in is the plates plain and can be seen

i am quite famous my self for buying great cars for no money.
like jez i have spent literally thousands on money pit cars mainly mk1 golfs. what ever needed doing on them got done regardless of cost.

i have never had an new car or had any of my many shitters not get me home. the only cars that have failed me completely are my work transits especially this new one. they dont make em like they used to:oops:

my golfs water pump gasket went on the way to blackpool once the car limped there and i then fixed it with a coloring book and sissors. this repair was still in there when i took the car off the road some 5 years later and is still there today. it also broke down once. turned out i`d reconnected the fuel lines the wrong way after undersealing under the car and fuel tank. took 5 mins to sort without any tools.

i am very very hard on my cars an give them so much abuse.
i`ve had an old proton with a 2000 watt ice system (great reliable car if a bit dull.) for a saloon it handled brilianly and the mitsi engine was quick as hell and bomb proof. i kicked f**k out off every day for two years and only replaced a drive shaft. total cost £200 an i`d have another tomorrow

a diesel renault five that i bought for a tenner smashed every panel with a sledge hammer then drove round for 6 month and sold on for 15 quid. i drove that to the scrappy 50mile in 3rd reving th nuts off it desperately trying to kill it to no avail. horrible car

went to hire a car to take me and a group of mates to a gig in Manchester but it was gonna cost £100
so i bought a beautful mk3 granada (like a motorised arm chair) for 75 quid and sold after the gig for a ton

i`ve also had lots of other great cars for between £30 and £200 my fave being a mk 3 box escort that i got for 30 quid and had for three years with out spending a penny bar MOT and even then it just flew through. i eventually spent and enjoyable afternoon smashing it to bits ramming walls, handbrake turning and eventually rolled onto its roof (on private land) and it still drove me home

i would never ever buy a new car and can only really laugh when people tell me how much they`ve just lost on there new toy
