not if you take care of it i still have a r reg mk5 x british gas bought it in 2000 when it was on 33k now on 66k and still looks the part. also i think rotting away is a problem with all old transits

there are some mk5 vans which are worth alot more then that mate the 1s that are totally mint with very low mileage. i personally think these were one of the best transit and if i see a mint 1 i will go for it.

and then watch it quietly rot away

unfortunately rot's a problem on all but the newest transits - I spend a lot of my working day knocking holes in them when I'm testing them

Ive just gotta keep my ears open, although i got offered a rather tasty looking mk 6 tonight from a mate of a mate, y reg, 143.000 miles but no history. Ive been told the clutchs cost close on a grand to get repaired on the mk 6, how true is that ? i hardley want that to fail on me! Oh yeh and its got a nasty up and over door on the back. 2k he wants for it though
Leaves me 1k for mods
The rear tailgate is really putting me off though. However the van itself looks good.
