Having just got the Torneo I have been checking out the tyre situation. The handbook recommends the following for the Torneo. 205/70R14, not the C (ie Commercial) tyre which is detailed for most other Transits.

With regard to the http://www.mytyres.co.uk site, they are a German based company and are good. I ordered winter tyres for my Daewoo Matiz through them and they arrived in 4 days (from Germany). I have just ordered winter tyres for the Torneo (Cooper Weather-master S/T2 205/70 R14 95S WSS) through them £210 for 4 including delivery.

HIYA FRED , THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ON THE TYRE COMPANY :D

REGARDING THE TYRES FOR A TOURNEO , WHEN I FIRST GOT MINE IT HAD VERY WORN TYRES ON THE ORIGINAL FIVE SPOKE ALLOYS , WHEN I STARTED SHOPPING AROUND FOR THE NEW TYRES ALL THE DEALERS SAID THAT IT SHOULD BE FITTED WITH COMMERCIAL TYRES , NOT JUST BECAUSE OF BEING A TRANSIT BUT ALSO BEING A MINIBUS , SO SINCE THEN I HAVE ALWAYS GONE FOR THE COMMERCIAL TYRE , MAINLY BECAUSE OF INSURANCE PURPOSES :?

oppps, I forgot to reply, Avons seem to be OK in the wet, no problems but can be if tyres are too wide, contary to popular belief that wider tyres give you better grip in the wet is not true, also wider tyres rob you of power and hence more fuel is needed to keep you moving, just my thought on tyres, its a special balnce vs grip with tyres and you dont need to sell tyres to know this to, unlike tyre dealers they will sell more than you really need when you ask them whats best, worst question to ask a tyre dealer cos he'll convince you need better wider etc

I thought the min tread depth for a commercial was 1mm, 1.6 for non commercial

Vosa specifies that only on HGVs is the 1mm min allowed, vans are considered light goods and they fall in the 1,6mm bracket, its all to do with weight and speed
