The van was this colour when i bought it. Ive spoke to my insurance again today and they say that they need the reg no of the other vehicle. Trouble is, ive seen it agan today and theres no reg plates on it. So the only thing ive been able to get is the phone no of the hire company it belongs to, and ive given them that. Also been to see a lad today that buys insurance writeoffs and fixes them, and hes 90% sure they will write it off. So it looks like i'll just have to wait and see what they offer me and how much I can buy it back for.

Not wrong there geoff any vehicle on the publick highway MUST display plates and a tax disc iirc

AFAIAA contractors can use un-registered vehicles on the public highway in connection with their nearby work.

It don't matter a toss if he had got registration plates or not - while working at/on any site the contractor should have Public Liability Insurance for their workers, vehicles and other equipment. I would be inclined to get in touch with the contractors head office and ask them for the details of their Public Liability Insurance then file a claim against them.

Long term yes, but unregistered vehicles can go to a booked MOT displaying the chassis number, and you can't get tax without an MOT, so that's one occasion a a vehicle can be on the public road without tax or number plates.

yes you can fred, tractors dont have an MOT but they do have tax, and as its a plant vehicle tax is zero anyway

they would just goto the tractor garages surely, fred. there are tonnes of them about. I can think of at least ten in my local area !!
