Flashing headlights, legal or not??????

Probably could if I put my mind to it but was just wondering about the legalities.......

defo illegal to have flashing white lights

I could tell you all sorts of things about police light wireing, chap who did our electrics lectures at college (basically chatting and watching DVD's) used to wire all the warwicshire cars

any side to side flashing lights (front or rear) are reserved for the three emergency services - although I did have alternating rear fogs on my recovery truck but wired so they only worked when stationary - it's all common sense be seen or be hit

Nah you're allowed side to side amber, but ANY other colour of flashing light (whether side to side or not) is illegel.
Off the top of my head -
only police/ambulance/fire brigade are allowed flashing white, and on the front only
only police/fire/HATO are allowed flashing red, on the rear and when stationary only
flashing green (visible from all sides) is for authorised doctors on call
flashing blue can be used by police/ambulance/fire/bomb squad/coastguard and possibly one or two others. Not all these agencies are allowed to break the speed limit/run red lights even when blues lights flashing.

Also VOSA can use flashing amber lights to pull you over for a roadside check, saw them do this to a polish truck on the M6 today

But I was wondering if using them at the side of the road (when stationary), say when your recovering a vehicle or helping someone and it's in a dark and dangerous place.

If you're often recovering vehicles then buy an amber beacon, your main danger is someone running into the back of you

I was going to get amber flashing light bar for roof or head board but was just wondering about the "wig wag" lights.

Aren't the Royal Mail the only people who are "legaly" allowed to run red lights and it's "accepted" that the emergency services can?? A sotry I heard a long time ago maybe as a child

Never heard that one. I know doctors have green lights, but I don't think red lights have any legal standing so are not restricted.

I saw a Snowdonia National Park warden's van and pickup the other day and they had blue flashers on the roof - probably only allowed to use them in the park or something.

It's all about having hi vis red/yellow chevrons and motorway maintenance signs then sticking the oranges on, two wheels on the verge and straight past any traffic jam

(Disclaimer: this is almost certainly breaking several laws)

Purple aint legal but some directors chose to use it anyway
TBH, I don't really see the point in parading a waste product (corpse) round at 20mph followed by about 50 other cars

a lot of horse vets have flashing lights round here, and fyi a doctor cant work on an animal but a vet can work on a person legally

They probably have flahing blue/green for use at the big horse events but they're breaking the law if they don't cover them up while on the road
