Scrapman said to me, he's normally not paying out for cars now, no money in it for him :(

He has many other strings to his bow though, rents scrap skips out, sells part worns, bit of servicing and repair, flogs a few motors, council contract for collecting dumped ones, and rents out storage, shipping containers :)

My V reg ex Police dog van bit the dust, at 80, on the M62. Fortunately got towed home by Green Flag. Not worth the cost of repairing (gearbox goosed plus all the other things that need doing before the next MOT), so it went to the great tranny resting ground in the sky (Widnes, actually). £200.

Won't be buying another ex police van.

But I did keep the 5 dog cages for my next van. Got quoted £2000 plus for building similar cages in a new van.

Scrap's on the way back up, last monday 10th i phoned up our local scrapyard and it was £25 a ton, next day and the day after (tues + weds) it was £35 a ton, phoned them up today and it was £45 a ton. :)

lets hope so......but its still going down according to the official figures....copper is down to 1100 / tonne....... last week it was 1200, week before it was 1300...........far cry from may when it was 3300/ tonne.......

Those figures i gave are for mixed scrap, mainly white goods like washing machines, cookers etc.
