Come to Gloucester. We regularly use the council tip. There is a height restriction of 2.0m but I can get under that. The guys and girl are very friendly and will generally help if you look like you are struggling with a heavy item. They genuinely seem to enjoy what they are doing.

Of course they do...all the stuff they sell makes them plenty, but to be fair I have picked up some right bargains at the tip as I never simply tip and then drive away as it always pays to have a look around.....I must have some gypsy blood in me somewhere.

I did a job at our local tip after it had a break in. The lad in charge made me a cup of tea he said come in the office and have a sit down. He was telling me about all the stuff that gets tipped there like when this woman brought the contents of her recently deseaced dads house in the back of a van. He said he was going to tell her she could not tip until he saw what was in it, there was old meccano sets, train sets and other old collectables. He let her tip but the lad said he sold most of it on ebay.

I just get a skip at my unit and put what i want in it no stress :D

Our local council has done the same thing!! me and me dad took my old sette - i drove through the exit - which had no height barrier as we were unloading it they came up with the usuall - sign written van! which said Engineering Services on it, hardly trade waste - a settee!! cut a long story short we dumped it where it was and f***ed off  the nob there took my reg plate and said -that van is banned from this site "for ever"  luckly i wrote the van off a few months later (wasnt a transit)
anyway since then they have banned all vans - even plain ones - without a permit, and stopped people walking in with rubbish  they say on health and safety grounds  but thats bullshit

also there was an article in the local paper saying flytipping had gone up 300% or summat in the last 2 years  but a council spokesman said they were allocating an extra £25K towards catching them

prevention is better than the cure eh

I rest my case - common sense and councils just don't go together. What rubs salt in it is who pays for their buffoonery... :x :x :x

Greeenford, west London. You have to take your ID to prove you live in the borough of Ealing to tip for free. The snag is you still have to go over the wieghbridge and it closes at 3pm!
