Just out of interest I have filled out an online form for our minibus, 1986 2L with 12 seats (exactly as built). I am 44, with a clean license and been driving for 20 years. I have over 10 years no claims on our fleet policy (though that would be hard to prove as I am not named) and one year with the traders. I'll let you know how I get on.

for thehangmen,
if you have a 8 seater minibus, insurance companies will not believe you only use it for social, domestic and pleasure  and are not using it for business, they just dont trust anybody.
If you dont use it as a minibus and dont need all 8 seats,do as i did.
I bought a 12 seater SWB,removed 6 seats,and now have a 6 seater with LOADS of rear load space.
I transfered my CIS car insurance to the minibus, with no probs as it only had 6 seats.
When it came up for renewal i shopped around(on the internet)and found CHURCHILL to be the cheapest for me  -OH YES.

Thanks Mick, but its already a 14 seater with 2 rows out. Suppose could go the extra seats out though it'd make the carpet look shabby!
They just dont like the word minibus I think. Though a van with extra seats is fine!
Tried saying its a van with extra seats, then they ask if its got windows all round ('yes') and then won't touch it.

Another thing is I've filled out countless online forms for a callback and received just one callback in the last 3 days. I was on another call, and the callback promised for 2 minutes later never happened.

When I bought my van I did a bit of shopping around, I found the cheapest was Dial Direct.....£240 fully comp, but it doesnt give me third party access to non owned vehicles but that is for personal use, I suppose that as i'm over 40 with full no claims and a clean licence helps :D

Have you tried budget insurance? I just got mine insured for 280 fully comp. its a 125 280 swb, not a bus, but might be worth a try, my next cheapest quote was over 80 quid more.

Thanks for all your replies - this forum is worth its weight in gold!

I got sorted with CIS at £460 fully comp (2 yrs NCD, 3 points), up to 8 people with UK/European breakdown. No other drivers but worth it to save a few £hundred!
