Right, don't have the facts but did work it out on a return trip 180 miles each way. 190 Twin wheel 2.5Di Stock Banana Pickup. 32 -33/34mpg unladen. 28/29mpg with a tonne and a half on the boot. Calculated cruising main A roads @ 55-60mph on a 5.14 diff including loads of 10% hills laden in second gear!! (A30, A303, A36 etc.).

Smiley Transits rule!!!!
My Mk5 was biodegradable and disintegrated with time.

Finally entered the 21st Century and bought a MK7. Oh Dear.

theres Mobil, BP and Shell, and they have tankers in the Shell site signed up Sainsburys, Tescos, Asda, etc...

the "premium" diesel id guess is standard stuff with additives - who know what - but it is quieter and seems better but at what cost?

on holiday in spain ive never seen a smokey diesel car or van, i bet thier derv is better

It is........our diesel fad came from the continent.think back 20 yrs.we had petrol and they had diesel.

we pay a premium for our "super/extra/ultimate"......go to spain.....its just diesel ;)

as for the "special super ultimate" over here....It's a load of BS  you think you are doing your van a favour.all you are doing is lining a fat cat's pocket.

You are better off adding something like Redex diesel treatment every 5 tankfulls....or a teaspoon of acetone............

I will never buy "fancy" diesel............no point

its been proven to give more power :?

try it for a few tanks and you'll be suprised.

if you want to look after your fuel system, then why not use it :?: for the tiny extra cost you get more power to weight, more economical,

just cos the fuel comes from the same refinery doesn't mean the same quality of fuel is given to every company.

its a bit like saying all oil is the same.

cant see exactly how exhaustive this was, did they drain the tank/pump/lines between fuels, and what were the torque figures, as BHP isnt any good for getting cars moving, its torque you need torque=grunt

thats what they said.

if it increases power by say 5ps thats a 4% power increase,
increase in MPG is roughly 60miles if not more, to a tank so thats a 13% increase in MPG
then with the benifit of giving your fuel sytem the best you can get reducing failure rate, saving even more money and energy, thers no way it can be a loser.
would defo imagine emmisions would be lower also, so increase in efficeincy and economy
win win win win :D :D

Em..last time I filled the tank was about 2 years ago, its 2 tonne unladen and I never ride it over half full, just because its dead weight and what with me being a cheapskate - I reckon I'II do less mpg with a full tank of diesel. I'II go down Safeway and fill up and report back, there will be a few stop start journeys though in there so it will reduce my mileage but it will be a good measure for a typical tipper application. I think 29mpg laden, 32 mpg unladen is about normal for a 190 pickup doing 55mph max without any full pump mods! Yeah sorry for the second post, they do rule though! MK5s!!

they all make the same mistake though, emphasising BHP, when 90% of driving (urban/rural) you need the torque (to pull away at sensible RPM), im averaging 37 mpg on tesco/morrisons black gold, but im happy to try the good stuff over 2 tankfulls (2 weeks use)

we shall see, money talks, bullshit walks, as they say

BTW, its not a "small extra price" when you buy 1,2 or more tankfulls a week is it...

i wont be trialing the shell premium derv, simply because our Tesco shopping came with 5p a ltr off voucher....

the shell (premium) is 106.9/ltr

the tesco with a voucher is 95.9/ltr

thats 11% cheaper?

you pay + ill try it

im not afraid of anything except less return per £ spent on fuel

getting 38mpg average on Tesco derv, at 11% less than shell premium, id have to see 42mpg at least just to equal it (after the discount)

why would I want to lose money?

im not a private motorist, its my living, basic Tesco derv is probably supplied by Shell anyway
